Welcome to the debut of another of our new columns! “What We’re Loving This Week” will post every Friday, and feature things we’ve discovered either around the web or around the “world” that we are excited about.
So here is our first weekly round up of “awesome geeky things”!
1) Rosanna Pansino’s new Nerdy Nummies Cookbook!
I’ve been a longtime fan of Rosanna Pansino’s YouTube Channel. And I was so excited the other day to discover (on a walk though Target) that she has a new cookbook out, featuring her “Nerdy Nummies.” (It’s actually not that new – apparently it was released in November, but somehow I managed to miss it. . .)
On an initial flip-through, I was very impressed by the choices of treats featured in the book – many of them seemed excellent ideas to bake up for a nerdy party. (I especially loved the comic book cookies!) I was also thrilled with the beautiful design of the book and the gorgeous pictures.
I haven’t had a chance to bake any of the featured treats yet, but I’ll certainly let you know if I do!
This is another find that, apparently, is not all that new. But it is new to me, so, hey, I’m gonna feature it here anyway! 🙂
I was doing a Google search for something else entirely, when this magazine popped up in the search results. I took at look at the latest issue, and immediately decided to subscribe.
This is a digital only magazine, but it’s layed out just like a print one, including beautiful photography and full page spreads. It’s the content, though, that I was most impressed by. Not only does it feature articles particularly relevant to geek parents, such as the current issue’s feature story about the effect of superhero movies on children, it also features geek-related stories of relevance to parenting in general, such as concerns about raising our new generation of kids in a digital world.
I’m definitely looking forward to taking a look at more issues!
I don’t remember where I originally discovered this one, probably in my Pinterest feed, but I immediately fell in love with the designs of these Print Art Shoppe shower curtains. (They also do pillows and duvet covers.) Although they might seem a bit pricey for a shower curtain, I love them so much (especially for a kid’s bathroom) that I almost don’t care. 🙂
Although I was a bit disappointed at first to discover that none of the superhero designs feature female superheroes, I emailed the company and was thrilled to discover that they will happily print any design I send them. Meaning – you can have them print your own shower curtain!
Although I have yet to put this to the test, I am imagining the printing method might make it possible to not only create your own design, but also to make something that might be a bit more durable (long-lasting) than my own paint-your-own-design creation currently hanging in our bathroom. I’ll keep you posted and let you know what I discover.
This wonderful article showed up in my Facebook feed this week, and I couldn’t be more thrilled to witness this family cosplay of The Force Awakens.
Parker and I did our own Star Wars cosplay for Halloween this past year (see below), although ours was of Return of the Jedi. (My own favorite childhood movie.) I couldn’t wait to try out an ewok costume on Parker, ever since I saw this easy costume hack floating around the web. Unfortunately, I couldn’t convince my husband to dress up with us, but Parker and I did our own Princess Leia and ewok thing. (Also, unfortunately, Parker was going through a phase at the time when I could never seem to capture him smiling in a picture. So, see below for “the world’s grumpiest ewok.” Although I still think he looks adorable. 🙂 )
Anyway, I was so happy to see this, and maybe next year (or for an upcoming con) I might be able to convince the hubby to do a Star Wars cosplay with us! After all, as the article suggests, “the family that cosplays together . . .”
